Imagine some of the prettiest landscaping you’ve ever seen. Was it a high end resort? A city park? Or maybe it was a college campus or a golf course? And for good reason, they are gorgeous. Well, they are gorgeous as long as they are properly maintained.
Why Do You Maintain Lakes and Ponds?
It might seem silly if you’ve never heard of it before. Why would anyone need to partake in something called lake management? It’s a body of water, right? Doesn’t it just sit there? Well, it could, but chances are it would get murky, it would attract mosquitoes and eventually it would start smelling really bad. Imagine what would happen if those high end resorts had a murky pond that smelled like dead fish. It wouldn’t be good. If you have any type of lake or pond on your property it is important to keep it maintained all year long, not just during the summer.
How Do You Maintain Lakes and Ponds?
Different bodies of water have different requirements. If there is no source of running water, such as a fountain or a waterfall, you may need to have an aerator to help keep water clean and flowing and avoid a build up of algae. If you do have a build up of algae or pond scum you may need to start using herbicides to eradicate unsightly plant growth before it becomes problematic.
